At the end of the book of Jeremiah, the City of Jerusalem (Zion) had been destroyed by the armies of Babylon. In the book of Lametations, written by Jeremiah, he cried as he sat on the highest point outside of Jerusalem, watching her destruction play out, exactly as he had prophesied.

Before the Babylonians invaded, Jeremiah had been giving a message to the people and to the King in Jerusalem, that they needed to repent, turn away from the idols in which they had been worshipping, and turn back to the Lord. And if they did not, there were going to be harsh consequences. They refused to listen.

Chapter 2 tells of the punishment of God. The Lord was angry. And because of the abundant sin that had seemingly overtaken Jerusalem, He rained down His wrath and it poured out like fire.

Whatever you have that is most important to you…that may be pushing the things of God aside…realize that thing is deceiving you. It will not help you in times of hardship if you call out to it. Our strength is not in idols and things. It is ONLY in God! If you’ve strayed away from the Father, He is calling out to you to return to Him. Be sure that you are seeking the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, first. You will not find hope in things. Hope can only be found in The Lord!
